WHAT WE DO

With a diverse body of members spread across the greater Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., metro areas, IABC/DC Metro strives to deliver valuable professional development programming to our members. We supplement our monthly chapter meetings with regular meetings for niche audiences.

Previously at IABC/DC Metro...

In July, veteran speechwriter Matt Teper visited IABC/DC Metro to share the exhilerating--and, often, exhausting--experiences that accompany his job as speechwriter to Vice President Joe Biden. Teper has been a Washington-area writer since graduating from law school in 2002, working for various advocacy groups and a public affairs firm. During the 2004 election season, he wrote the blog for Rock the Vote.

Renowned writer, teacher, and presenter Ann Wylie visited our chapter in June to present a special writing workshop aimed at helping members craft compelling messages "in the age of now."  Ann was also our guest at a "workshop eve" happy hour, one of many great networking events IABC/DC Metro holds throughout the year.

In April, Kate Perrin, president of PRofessional Solutions, LLC (left); Ned Lundquist, ABC; creator of Ned’s Job of the Week; and Heather R. Huhman, founder and president of Come Recommended, discussed HR, hiring practices in the communication profession, and what job seekers need to do to always put their best foot forward

At our March chapter meeting, members learned about how a strategic approach to communication garners success from longtime-members Christine Nyirjesy Bragale, ABC, former managing director at Weber Merritt Public Affairs; and Jeffrey Brooke, ABC, director of employee communication at the United States Government Printing Office.
